I am pleased to show you a wedding celebrated in one of the most emblematic castles of Maine-et-Loire, the Château du Plessis-Bourré.
After a wedding in Scotland, we flew to France, to cover Guillame and Qiaz’s wedding. A wedding that united multiple traditions and customs, from the French one to that of Singapore.
I had dreamed of having a Chinese wedding for a long time, but I never expected to arrive in France to see the wedding traditions, which are very different from ours.
Chinese wedding is a ceremony in which the marriage is presented to relatives and friends.
The dominant color of the ceremony, starting from the bride’s dress, is red, a symbol of prosperity and happiness.
Today it is customary to wear both the Chinese and the Western wedding dress. In fact, good practice for the bride is to change her clothes three times during the day.
In the morning, the traditional Chinese dress, the flowered qipao; during the ceremony, the white dress with the train, in the Western style; and in the evening, as a sign of good luck, a red dress, preferably long.

There are many traditions and customs of Chinese weddings, the tea ceremony is one of the most significant events. It includes very formal rituals on the part of both the bride and groom to show respect to their families.
Historically, after exchanging vows, the couple serves tea to the groom’s family. Today, many couples choose to show respect to both the groom’s and bride’s families by hosting tea ceremonies for both parties.
Apart from this, tea is the symbol of purity, stability and fertility. During the ceremony, the groom should stand on the right and the bride on the left. Their parents should sit and wait for the new couple to genuflect and serve tea. The order during the service is very important, because it shows how the couple respects the seniority of their respective parents, who are served first.
